Value for money and work well in charging macbook or phone
I have been using for 2-3 months this with a Dell XPS15 9650 and Dell 27inch USB-C monitor at home and a 32inch Dell USB-C monitor at work (as well as a GaN 100W USB-C charging brick I recently bought). Longer review here to hopefully provide some useful info for others.
Works brilliantly, allows me full 4k video with 100W power delivery (and pass-through USB data connection to devices I plug into the Dell monitors, like thumb-drives etc), easy connection and disconnection. I bought 2 initially to try them out, after using these for while was quite happy (no problems with connection quality, never dropped out or played up), so I got 2 more so I can add mag-safe style connections to other devices I use.
Issues/hacks: Main issue of course is the lack of Thunderbolt, wish you could get that as well in the sideways style connector. And I found the female part that sits in the laptop port can move around so I used a small amount of Bluetack/double sided tape to secure and now it's rock solid. Of course the magnetic connection is not as solid as with the direct USB-C plug so with higher-rated USB-C cables that are usually thicker and stiffer you can accidentally disconnect easily, but then again I guess that's the point!. Perhaps if you're using it for power only you could buy the thinnest or most flexible USB-C cable that carries the power level you need?
For peace of mind, streamlined connection going straight back from the edge of the laptop, ease of (dis)connection and also no worrying about wear and tear on the solitary USB-C port on my laptop, I would highly recommended it!
Missed the old magsafe for my new MBP. This brings it back!
Does exactly what it references and even better. Works with my iPad Pro 2018
